“Taarab rose to prominence in 1928 with the rise of the genre’s first star, Siti binti Saad from Zanzibar. The word Taarab, a loanword from Arabic, means “having joy with music”

When walking onto the roof, through the doors of Darini, Kisiwa House’s restaurant, takes you back to a time of decadence and self indulgent luxury. Amber glass lighting and brass antique fixtures glow around you to put you at ease. Darini is a distinctive restaurant that offers both traditional and continental specialities inspired by the island’s rich spices and flavours. Our Chef will introduce your palate to an amazing fusion of fresh food while admiring the breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and sunset over the rooftops of Stone Town.

The Courtyard Lounge is a hidden retreat for you to unwind. The symphony of flowing water and enchanting traditional Taraab music take your mind to a place of serenity and calm. We invite you to linger over a freshly brewed coffee pot or take in the scent of spiced tea while indulging in the delights of a freshly baked pastry.
